Silenced ("we", "us", "our") operates the Silenced platform, including the desktop application and web client at web.silenced.app. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your data.

We built Silenced with privacy as a core principle. We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for advertising or marketing purposes.

2. Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create an account, we collect your email address, username, and password. Your password is securely hashed and is never stored in plain text. Multi-factor authentication (MFA) is required for all accounts.

Message Content

Messages, files, and media you send are stored on our servers to deliver them to recipients. Voice and video calls are end-to-end encrypted (E2EE) — we cannot access the contents of your calls.

Technical Data

We may store minimal server logs (such as IP addresses) for security and abuse prevention purposes. These logs are retained for no longer than 14 days and are not used for tracking, profiling, or analytics.

3. What We Do NOT Collect

  • We do not use cookies for tracking or advertising
  • We do not collect analytics or telemetry data
  • We do not fingerprint your browser or device
  • We do not build user profiles or behavioral models
  • We do not share any data with advertisers or data brokers
  • We do not use third-party tracking scripts

4. How We Use Your Information

The information we collect is used solely to:

  • Provide, maintain, and operate the Silenced platform
  • Authenticate your account and manage sessions
  • Deliver messages and media to intended recipients
  • Prevent abuse, spam, and violations of our Terms of Service
  • Comply with legal obligations when required by law

5. Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored on servers that we operate. We use industry-standard security practices including encrypted connections (TLS), securely hashed passwords, mandatory multi-factor authentication, and end-to-end encryption for voice and video communications.

While we take reasonable measures to protect your information, no system is 100% secure. We encourage you to use a strong, unique password for your account.

6. Data Retention

Account data is retained for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your data will be permanently removed from our servers within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.

Security logs (IP addresses) are automatically purged after 14 days.

7. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your account and associated data
  • Export your data in a portable format

8. Children's Privacy

Silenced is not intended for use by anyone under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected data from a child under 13, we will delete it promptly.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Continued use of Silenced after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
